I'd definitely use a Sure sm58 for direct micing the singer. (rough equivalent to the Sennheiser above). The application I recommend the Sony stereo mic is for micing the room. I wasn't very clear about that. I put it on a mic stand as very high pointing slightly down. This gets a good overall room mix.

I was wondering why you suggest a condenser type microphone for a kirtan?
(you say : "Dynamic microphones are generally less responsive than a condenser microphone. A Condenser microphone generally has better quality but are delicate.")

So why this choice. I would recommend a shure 58 or similar.

I've had a Sony ECM-MS957 microphone for the past ten years. I bought it in 1998 to use with a Sony minidisc to record music and speaking. In those ten years I think I've changed the battery once or twice. It really doesn't use much power at all. It has great top end, but it 's a little light on the bass for kirtans. Awesome for speech.

Haribol,
PAMHO. AGTSSG&G!
I believe those .tr3 files will only work with Tome Raider,
which doesn't work at all on the Mac (plus it costs $$).
OTOH, Adobe Reader is fine with most any OS and has versions for Palm, Windows mobile, and Symbian. It has a conversion utility to make .pdf files suitable for use on a smartphone, and can be downloaded from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2_allversions.html free of charge. Of course there are many sources of Vaishnava literature in .pdf form online, and I've been doing this with my Treo (and an SD card) for some time time now. Beats having to carry several heavy books around. :) Love your site, especially the tech reviews. Hare Krsna!

Great review. 6 year warranty is awesome! That thing must be built to last.

The Roland Street Cube has a 15 hour battery life, so we replace the batteries about once a month. 6xAA. It can be done very quickly, and if you don’t have spares on hand you can quickly buy some.

It’s good that the Megavox came with wireless mics. Since we already have those for our fixed environment it wasn’t such a consideration when we looked at the Street Cube. Although the total battery consumption for the unit, with the wireless mics, is about 14xAA / month.
